LinearColor Flex illuminates a movable immovabile

Weimar – cradle of Bauhaus. The close proximity of our companies head office and the famous Bauhaus-Universität led us to a high honour. During summer terms 2016 professorship designing and supporting structure has worked on a movable atelier, giving a landscape painter the opportunity to self-sufficiently work and live in the surrounding nature. A multi-level design phase resulted in a concept with two, via telescopic pull-outs slidable cubes.

The experimental building – completely constructed and manufactured by students of the faculty – was presented on 14th July on the occasion of Summeary2016 and contains four linear fixtures made from our LinearColor Flex 8/800. The students draft achieves a symbiosis of a straightforward base frame and organic shapes of the roof membrane. With its minimalistic elegance our LinearColor Flex fulfills the important task of general lighting without stealing the ateliers show. Additionally its small size takes the limited spatial conditions into account.

We’d like to thank Dr. Stephan Schütz, Olaf Kammler and all students involved in this project for the successful integration of our LED stripes. We are looking forward to future collaborations!

Information regarding this movable immovable can also be found at the faculty’s web site.

Interdisciplinary light design

to promote health

In all areas of life, light has a significant influence on our personal well-being. The planners of therapy centres and hospitals are attaching increasing importance to the role of lighting in enhancing quality of life, thus complementing classic aspects of treatment.

The CatoSenteret inpatient therapy center in the town of Son, near Norway’s capital, Oslo, is regarded as one of the best of its kind. It was established in the 1990s as a private foundation and is now run in partnership with the country’s health authorities. Its holistic treatments help in the rehabilitation of a large number of patients suffering from serious conditions.

In cooperation with garden designer Darren Saines, CatoSenteret has now redesigned the outdoor area of a residential section as a therapy area, meeting point and place of relaxation. It has become not only a place to spend time in the evening, but also a therapy garden, and has been designed to also be suitable for work with mobility-impaired patients. A key factor in producing the atmosphere of this outdoor area is our MultiColor Flex Series.

Thanks to intelligent control of the LED strips, the illumination can be altered depending on the requirements of the situation. Around 130 m in total of MultiColor Flex 14 with 70 lm/m was used; whose arrangement in the covered areas ensures sufficient illumination for evening meetings and courses.

The same product also provides indirect lighting in the adjacent water courses. Thanks to individual operation, this indirect lighting helps patients find new strength and recuperate as they enjoy a relaxing end to the day. Such flexible use is chiefly made possible by a robust plastic coating, which guarantees IP68 protection for the strip and connection.

We learned of the most positive success story of our products from CatoSenteret’s own employees. Now that the garden has been completed, more and more patients are gathering there after a strenuous day of treatment or, when in their rooms, are opening the curtains of their windows and swapping their evening's TV viewing for a chat. Light can do this too!

New addition to the family

LinearColor Flex

At this year's Light + Building exhibition, we unveiled the latest newcomer to our product family – LinearColor Flex.

Boasting all the advantages of our unique manufacturing technology, it is built to withstand major chemical and mechanical stresses and provides full IP68 protection right down to fragile components such as end caps and connections. What’s more, the customisable flexible circuit boards allow the strip to bend along all axes through three dimensions, opening up more areas of applications compared with conventional LED strips.

The importance of its functionality is of course matched by that of its aesthetics. The homogenous light generated makes LinearColor Flex particularly suitable for projects with even the greatest design demands. What’s more, our specially designed flexible circuit boards allow the strip to bend along all axes, therefore through three dimensions (in accordance with minimum radii), opening up more applications compared with conventional LED strips and, most importantly, ensuring safety during installation work.

In addition to the standard single colour version, LinearColor Flex is available in a wide range of fixed colour temperatures with light outputs from 200 to 800 lm/m. The advantage here is that the coloured strip where light is emitted is still visible when the light is off – hence leaving boring white LED strips a thing of the past.

Caravan Salon

High-quality LED lighting is no longer restricted to the realms of architecture. Many industrial areas outside the traditional light environment have recognised the advantages of this versatile technology.

As an innovative company, we are therefore always looking for new areas of applications for our products and their unique qualities.

One way of exploring new possibilities is at the Caravan Salon 2016 in Dusseldorf. From 27 August to 4 September, we are showcasing our products at the world's largest exhibition for motorhomes and caravans and look forward to new market insights and fresh ideas.

You can find us at our sister company’s (Surteco Decor) stand in hall 13, stand E69; we look forward to seeing you there.
